Flavours of Malacca Day 1

Trip going up north was very smooth, the drive only took us about 1.5-2hr after custom on a Thursday morning. Soon after we park our ride, we lunch at Chung Wah Coffee Shop, the famous chicken rice ball in Malacca.
Master chef behind the legendary Malacca chicken rice ball.. Honest opinion, their chicken rice doesn't taste spectacularly memorable but this is one of Malacca landmark, it's a must visit to proof that you've been here.
 Around 11RM for 2 serving
Chicken wasn't tender as what we usually have in Singapore but you got to admit their lean kampong (village running) chicken meat and skin is much more chewy QQ.
 Durian Jam...Hm...
Tee shirt store selling local designers tee..

Dessert after our meal at Jonker 88 Dessert Museum
Famous durian gula malaka chendol RM3
Asam laska with handmade noodle and bean curd skin is an explosion of flavors inside your mouth RM4.50. The sour from the Asam (Tamarind), the pineapple, sweetness from the Sardine and cucumber and spicy from raw onions is so appetizing .
Checking into our hotel, Hangout at Jonker. Recommended by my colleagues, is a Singapore brand hotel. Very clean, service level excellent, good location and most importantly this is not pricey! Paid 120SGD for 2 night.
Small hotel with a small dinning area, pantry, laundry area (RM5 per wash).
Surprise to find the room to be exact same as what they offered on their web :) Clean and bright with a small window that allow the sunlight to shine in. Rooms that comes with window only have twin bed, so we slept on twin instead of queen.
Did i mention this whole hotel is Wifi enable and Free.
Roof top balcony of the hotel oversee the chung wah chicken rice store and river of Malacca.
My sleepy husband after long hours of drive. Took a nap before driving out to look for our overnight parking and dinner. Hangout hotel is the perfect place to stay if you don't drive. There is no paid guarded carpark in Malacca, most of the guarded carpark are provided by hotel.
After we have settled the place to park our car for the night, we drive out to our dinner place in Portuguese settlement.
Bad sunset shot, notice there are no nice sky of my trip? I went on a monsoon season and we are very lucky that rain didn't hit us but thick clouds follow wherever we go. Good and bad, good thing is we can enjoy a relaxing stroll exploring this small town, bad will be something like above..
Portuguese settlement, it is now an abandoned town. My impression of Malacca is one that is filled with sorrow, so many countries invaded them, colonized them, left them and never stay. You cant see any, not even one English man nor Caucasian walking around in this town..
One of the oldest and more famous Portuguese restaurant here, Restaurant San Pedro.
Notice there is no price tag in their menu?  No worries, i already checked their price from review of other bloggers, they are reasonably priced for their fresh and savory home cook meals. Our meal cost us only 50RM which consist of curry chicken, baked fish, fried vegetable and beer.
Fried sambal chili dried shrimps brinjal is mad love~ Not too spicy, little crispy and not too oily.
Curry Debal or Devil Curry, is flavored with candle-nuts, galangal and vinegar from the Eurasian Kristang people's tradition.
Our favorite dish, Portuguese baked fish. Probably Malacca is right beside the sea, the fish they serve here are so fresh and sweet. Sauce above are combination of herbs, tomato puree and a tiny bit of chili.
I will try to bake this when i am more familiar with my grill oven.. and i think it will taste a little better if i add some dill (herbs) before i send it into the oven..
